What is a quote price?

A quote price is the price at which an asset was last traded. It is often defined as the point where supply meets demand, as it’s the price that buyers and sellers agree on. When trading derivative products, on either side of the quote price (also known as market price) are ‘buy’ and ‘sell’ quotes – also known as the offer and bid prices.

What is the difference between a quote and a bid quote?

A quote is the last price at which an asset traded; it is the most recent price that a buyer and seller agreed upon and at which some amount of the asset was transacted. The bid quote is the most current price and quantity at which a share can be bought. The ask quote shows what a current participant is willing to sell the shares for.

What does a stock quote mean?

When a stock quote is referenced for a given company, it represents the most recent price at which a trade was successfully executed for that particular security.

What does a market price mean?

It usually appears as a notification on the online trading platforms, signifying prices of in-demand stocks, bonds, derivatives, or commodities. Exchanges express it in cents or dollars. The quoted or market price also shows the highest and lowest selling prices for a particular asset.
